Oregon Coast Aquarium at Newport Beach

For our anniversary weekend, Hubs and I took a trip to Cottage Grove, Oregon.  For those of you on the east coast… it is pronounced OregEn not OregOn.  On our drive from Seattle to Cottage Grove, we took a detour to The Newport Beach Aquarium and to the ocean!

I love the aquarium.  This one rates right up there with the best of them.  My favorite will always be The Boston Aquarium.  But that’s another story all together…

Back to Newport Beach.  Here are some of the pictures and some fun facts we learned at the aquarium.

1. Piranha only attack when they can sense stress and panic.

2.  Husbands don’t take into account the fact that for the picture to seem real… more piranhas have to be present…

3.  The Jellies!!!  Jellies have the ability to hypnotize with their undulations and wavy tentacles.

4.  They’re really pretty!

6. Tufted Puffins are birds not penguins.

6.  Japanese Spider Crabs have a “wing span” of 13 feet when they are full grown.

Some other fun facts:

Snails lay eggs then transport them across their slimy, slimy bodies onto the stem of a water plant.

If an anaconda eats a large animal it can take them up to 6 months to digest it.

Anaconda do not eat for their entire gestation period (up to 7 months!) because they do not want to waste precious energy needed to grow her young, by hunting.

After our trip to the aquarium, we visited the beach to step into the freezing cold Pacific Ocean water.  Well I got in the water at least.  Hubs was not so willing.

Who in goodness name did I marry??  Sneakers, at the beach!  Unthinkable!

Our trip continued on to Cottage Grove at the beautiful Village Green Resort.  It was so beautiful, it will have to have a post of its own.

Hahaha– I like the not-so-attacking piranha photo! And the jellyfish is AMAZING!
